STP AWARD HONORABLE MENTIONS

The large number of submissions qualifying for the STP Award has made the judging difficult at times. Subsequently, in 2020 an Honorable Mention category was established by the Foundation to recognize additional abstracts of meaningful merit. Listed below are Honorable Mentions which were recognized for their quality and focus, and importantly for reflecting their institutions’ (of the authors) increased recognition of psychosocial issues when considering sexual disorders as well as the sexual sequela of medical illness.

There were three 2022 Honorable Mentions announced at the 2022 Joint Fall Scientific meeting of the Sexual Medicine Society of North America & the International Society for Sexual Medicine in Miami, which are listed below in the order noted in the program. 

Able, C from The University of Texas Medical Branch and his co-authors Agrawal, P; Singh, S; Liao, B; Srinivasan, A; Gorman, B and Kohn, T who were all from Johns Hopkins, Maryland. Dr. Able received an Honorable Mention for his presentation on "Men with History of Depression Are More Likely to Continue Use of Antidepressants If Erectile Dysfunction is Treated with Testosterone or Phosphodiesterase-5 Inhibitors."

Campbell, J, Pignanelli, M, Deroches, D, and Macdonald, J, all from Western University, Ontario, received an Honorable Mention for the presentation: "Implementing a Virtual Mindfulness-based Group Therapy to Improve Male Sexual Dysfunction."

Esho (Chepkoech), T from the Amref International University, Nairobi, Kenya, received an Honorable Mention for her presentation: “Management of Psychosocial and Sexual Complains Among Cancer Patients in the African Context: A Scoping Review.”

Barry McCarthy, Ph.D., Emeritus Professor, American University (Washington DC) as an invited speaker would not be eligible for a Sexual Tipping Point Award, which is limited to abstracts the program committee selects from the “open” submissions. Nonetheless, Dr. McCarthy (a mapedfund.org advisor) deserves recognition for his excellent presentation: “  Strategies and Techniques to Promote Couple Sexuality in the 60’s, 70’s, and 80’s.” (SSTAR, April 2022)

Stanley E. Althof, Ph.D., Emeritus Professor Case Western University (Ohio) as an invited speaker would not be eligible for a Sexual Tipping Point Award, which is limited to abstracts the program committee selects from the “open” submissions. Nonetheless, Dr. Althof (a mapedfund.org advisor) and his co-authors Ian H. Osterloh, MRCP; Gary J. Muirhead, BSc, Hons, FIMLS, deserve recognition for his excellent presentation: “Hope and Heartbreak - The Vicissitudes of Clinical Trials with the Oxytocin Antagonist Cligosiban for Premature Ejaculation (SSTAR, April 2022).

Shari E. Goldfarb MD of Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center as an invited speaker who presented the Scientific Network on Female Sexual Health and Cancer Lecture, would not be eligible for a Sexual Tipping Point Award, which is limited to abstracts the program committee selects from the “open” submissions. Dr. Goldfarb deserves recognition for her excellent presentation: “Updates In Management of Sexual Health in Cancer Patients,” and is granted an Honorable Mention STP Award (ISSWSH, Dallas, March, 2022).

Marty Klein, Ph.D, as an invited “State of the Art Lecturer” to the International Society for the Study of Women’s Sexual Health meeting would not be eligible for a Sexual Tipping Point Award, which is limited to abstracts the program committee selects from the “open” submissions. Dr. Klein, deserves recognition and is granted an Honorable Mention STP Award for his excellent presentation: "When Pornography is an Issue: Couples Counseling & Psychotherapy,”(ISSWSH, Dallas, March, 2022).
